Návštěva na Godenholmu se z této slavné řady poněkud vymyká. Poprvé vyšla v roce 1952 a poté v němčině již jen jednou jako součást sebraných spisů. Kniha byla současníky nepochopena a v podstatě zapomenuta. Anglicky vyšla teprve před několika lety, což naznačuje vzrůstající zájem o tento ztracený klenot, vysoce ceněný svého času například Gottfriedem Bennem. K tomu, že dílo úplně nezapadlo, paradoxně přispělo rozvíjející se studium psychedelických látek a skutečnost, že objevitel LSD a spisovatelův přítel Albert Hofmann z něj obšírně cituje ve své knize LSD, mé nezvedené dítě - Jüngerovi zde věnuje celou jednu kapitolu. Návštěva na Godenholmu je totiž prvním literárním svědectvím o účincích LSD, které na sobě Jünger s Hofmannem na začátku padesátých let opakovaně zkoušeli. V knize samotné však není o drogách ani zmínky a její poselství tkví v něčem zcela jiném. Její trestí je zkušenost nihilismu, jeho překonání a odkrytí hlubšího řádu skutečnosti.
