Povídka William Wilson je typickou zástupkyní Poeova fantaskního až mystického stylu, jimž si získal světový věhlas. Autorem dalších dvou povídek – Hrůzný stařec a Ex Oblivinone – je právě H. P. Lovecraft, jehož příjmení dokonce definuje jeden ze subžánrů hororové literatury (jde o zdůrazňování strachu z neznáma, a nikoli o krvavé lázně). Tajemnou až hrůzostrašnou atmosféru povídek podtrhávají nejen hlasy skvěle vybraných herců – Petra Šmída a Jiřího Dvořáka –, ale, stejně jako u předcházející audioknihy, také hudba Marka Mrkvičky a grafické zpracování z dílny Karla Cettla a Veroniky Hlinkové.
