A Británie se stále houževnatě brání. Na konci srpna německé velení rozhoduje, po opětovaných leteckých útocích na civilní cíle, zahájit těžké bombardování měst ve snaze demoralizovat civilní obyvatelstvo a zničit průmyslová a komunikační centra a dopravní cesty. Ani tehdy se však britské obyvatelstvo nenechá zastrašit, naopak ztráty Luftwaffe stále rostou. V druhé polovině září je jisté, že Německo Bitvu o Británii prohrálo a plány na invazi na Britské ostrovy jsou navždy odloženy.
