Básník Jiří Kolář (1914-2002) napsal ve třicátých letech rozsáhlejší skladbu Rudý havran, které dal podtitul román reafora. Datoval ji rokem 1936 a zaslal svému tehdejšímu básnickému idolu, Vítězslavu Nezvalovi. Skladba vstoupila do ústního podání české literární historie 20. století jako legenda, text ovšem zůstával neznámý a Kolář sám jej neměl. Na text upozornili v polovině 90. let pracovníci Literárního archivu PNP v Praze Petr Kotyk a Jan Šícha, kteří jej vystavili u příležitosti Kolářovy výstavy v Památníku národního písemnictví. Editor spisů Jiřího Koláře Vladimír Karfík pak podal o Rudém havranovi zprávu v katalogu výstavy Surrealismus v Československu 1929-1953 (1996). Kolářův raný text na rozhraní prózy, poezie a hry s významy je tak pozoruhodný již okolnostmi svého zpřístupnění. Edici Rudého havrana dále doplňuje neznámá juvenilní básnická tvorba, texty z let 1934-1938 shrnutá pod názvem Nový don Quijote. Obě díla jsou charakteristická tím, že je mladý Jiří Kolář psal oslněn dobovým surrealismem, zároveň se v nich ale již projevuje i jeho jazykové experimentátorství, kterým se surrealismu vzdaluje a svou originalitou ovlivňuje v následujícím desetiletí tvorbu celé generace, v díle výtvarném pak v celosvětovém měřítku.
