Alexander Halvoník (1945) študoval na FFUK v Bratislave francúzštinu a slovenčinu. Po skončení štúdia pôsobil na viacerých postoch v oblasti kultúry, naposledy ako riaditeľ Literárneho informačného centra. Recenzie, literárne materiály a preklady uverejňuje v literárnych časopisoch a iných periodikách. Knižne debutoval autorským prerozprávaním, Rozprávok z tisíc a jednej noci (1944). Svoj prozaický talent prezentoval v novele Svrbenie krvi (1996) a zbierke poviedok a noviel Generačníci (2021), mapujúcej citové a intelektuálne rozpory, ľudí po roku 1989 a v poprevratovom období. Jeho koncízne vtipné, ironické a štýlovo prepracované prózy odkrývajú boľavé miesta spoločnosti. Je autorom novely pre mládež Mátoha, neboj sa (2014). Literárnokritické články a eseje publikoval v knihách Premeny I (2004) a Premeny II (2014). Je spoluautor Dejín slovenskej literatúry (2009). Z francúzštiny preložil okolo 40 knižných titulov.. V tomto zmysle majú silný etický náboj a apelatívny pohľad na slovenskú skutočnosť, vrátane sociálnej a politickej, ako aj na vzťah k filozofickým a transcendentálnym súvislostiam súčasného sveta.
