Ražba mince, jako základního platebního prostředku v rámci domácí i zahraniční směny, je v období raného středověku chápána jako jeden ze základních atributů státnosti. Otázkám spojeným se zahájením českého mincovnictví je věnována pozornost našich i zahraničních badatelů již bezmála 250 let. Hledání počátků ražby domácí mince připomíná detektivní příběh s množstvím indicií, ale jen s nepatrným množstvím přímých důkazů. Základním pramenem poznání nejen počátků českého mincovnictví, ale rovněž ekonomických procesů probíhajících v rámci širšího prostoru raně středověké střední Evropy, zůstávají, při nedostatku písemných pramenů, nálezy mincí. Ty jasně dokládají, že již před zaražením domácí mince byla v obchodním styku v Čechách využívána s rostoucí intenzitou mince cizí. V průběhu 9. století to byly denáry ražené v mincovnách karolínské říše, od počátku 10. století mince z bavorských mincoven. Jsou důkazem, že se Čechy postupně stávaly součástí širšího ekonomického prostoru západní Evropy. Je proto logické, že rostoucí moc přemyslovského státu a jeho politické a kulturní ukotvení vedly v určitém okamžiku vývoje k nutnosti zahájení ražby vlastní mince. Pardubice) a odevzdaný v prosinci téhož roku do sbírek Východočeského muzea v Pardubicích, představuje uzavřený a svou početností mimořádný celek, dokumentující jedinečným způsobem českou mincovní produkci 90. let 10. století. Otevírá nám prostor pro poznání jedné z důležitých etap českého mincovnictví, o němž jsme měli dosud jen velmi sporé informace. Na základě rozboru jeho obsahu je možno podrobněji dokumentovat činnost mincoven v Praze a na Vyšehradě na sklonku vlády knížete Boleslava II. (972-999) a přesněji určit chronologické zařazení denárových typů a variant, ražených v uvedeném desetiletí. Mimořádně cenné jsou rovněž informace o proměnách technologie výroby mincí. Nálezový soubor z okolí Chýště nabízí odpovědi na otázky, kladené celými generacemi českých numismatiků. Některé odpovědi jsou očekávatelné, jiné překvapivé. Při svém rozsahu a mimořádné výpovědní hodnotě nám významným způsobem doplňuje rovněž naše znalosti o stavu české společnosti a o charakteru ekonomických procesů, probíhajících v posledním desetiletí 10. století, tedy v období předcházejícímu hluboké krizi českého státu na přelomu tisíciletí, založené dosud z velké části na výpovědi pramenů archeologické povahy a velmi omezené výpovědi pramenů písemných. The Master of the Třeboň Altarpiece was one of the most important Gothic artists of the international style art in the European context. Scholarly literature, both Czech and foreign, presents various ideas concerning ascribing particular pieces of art to this unknown figure, the date of their origin and their chronology, artistic ideological points of departure of his work and the reconstruction and origin of the "Třeboň altarpiece."
