… Ursprünglich interessierte mich Urtika als Lokalperson mit seiner beschrankten Vorliebe für die Komotauer Geschichte nicht. Doch begann ich durch die tiefere Erforschung des Werkes, diesen am Rande des Interesses stehenden Geschichtsschreiber oder vielmehr Stadt- und Chronikschreiber als einen typischen Fall der frühneuzeitlichen Stadtchronistik in den böhmischen Ländern zu verstehen. Mein ursprünglich gedachter Aufsatz wurde langer und langer und er verwandelte sich schließlich in die vorliegende Abhandlung, die aus dieser Forschung erwachsen ist. Ich konzentriere mich dabei vornehmlich auf Urtikas Werk und versuche, die historischen Konsequenzen und die Kontexte durch eine vom historischen Standpunkt ausgehende Untersuchung aufzudecken. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die Ergebnisse einer zweijährigen Untersuchung zur Chronik Urtikas dargelegt, die sich in wesentlichen Teilen auf die Auswertung von bislang noch nicht oder nur unzureichend erschlossenem Quellenmaterial fußen. Diese handschriftliche Komotauer Chronik ist dem Namen nach wohl vielen bekannt, aber nur wenige konnten bis jetzt in sie Einsicht nehmen. Die Hauptfragestellungen lauten daher: Welche Rolle spielte Urtika für die Stadtgeschichte? Inwieweit bewahrte sich Urtika als Grenzgänger zwischen Stadt- und Landesgeschichte?
