Nedílnou součástí Janáčkova zájmu byly podpora a sběr písní, kterým dnes říkám posvátné, zlidovělé či lidové duchovní. Janáček si za spolupracovníka ve výzkumu lidové písně zvolil mimo jiné také Hynka Bíma pověřeného mapovat západní Moravu. Právě Bím zachytil při svých opakovaných sběrech v obci Vnorovy (tehdy Znorovy) soubor starých kostelních písní, kterým - ačkoli tvoří jen nepatrnou část z celkového počtu písní jím zaznamenaných - věnoval značnou pozornost (svědčí o tom i šestnáct dopisů vzájemné korespondence s L. Janáčkem, v nichž se tímto tématem zabývá). Ostatně, byly to právě Vnorovy, kde našel Janáček po předčasné smrti otce roku 1866 útočiště u svého strýce Jana Janáčka (v letech 1870-1878 zde působícího faráře). V dobách, kdy sám Leoš Janáček hrál na vnorovském kůru na varhany, se zde s místními duchovními písněmi pravděpodobně seznámil osobně. Zaměření písní má přímou vazbu na církevní rok. Část z nich nalezneme v kancionálu Jana Josefa Božana Slavíček rájský z roku 1719 představujícím základní srovnávací materiál, který byl ještě v dobách sběru v r. 1911 ve vnorovské farnosti využíván při bohoslužbách.
