Persepolis 2 - Marjane Satrapiová

Here is the fascinating and equally unforgettable sequel to Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi''s memoir-in-comic strips of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Persepolis ended on a cliffhanger in 1984, just as fourteen-year-old Marjane was leaving behind her home in Tehran, escaping fundamentalism and the war with Iraq to begin a new life in the West. Here we follow our young, intrepid heroine through the next eight years of her life: an eye-opening and sometimes lonely four years of high school in Vienna, followed by a supremely educational and heartwrenching four years back home in Iran. Just as funny and heartbreaking as its predecessor - with perhaps an even greater sense of the ridiculous inspired by life in a fundamentalist state - Persepolis 2 is also as clear-eyed and searing in its condemnation of fundamentalism and its cost to the human spirit. In its depiction of the universal trials of adolescent life and growing into adulthood - here compounded by being an outsider both abroad and at home, and by living in a state where you have no right to show your hair, wear make-up, run in public, date, or question authority - it''s raw, honest, and incredibly illuminating.

Stačí tedy, aby Marjánka vystřihla měsíc z noční oblohy a zavřela ho do klece u své postýlky.

Woman, Life, Freedom - Marjane Satrapiová

A collaboration of activists, artists, journalists, and academics working together to depict the historic uprising - with comics that show what would be censored in photos and film in Iran - in solidarity with the Iranian people, in defence of feminism. On September 13th 2022, a young Iranian student, Mahsa Amini, was arrested by the religious police in Tehran. Her only crime was that she wasn''t properly wearing the headscarf required for women by the Islamic Republic. At the police station, she was beaten so badly she had to be taken to the hospital, where she fell into a deep coma. She died three days later. The plight of this 22-year-old woman raised a wave of protests that soon spread through the whole country, and crowds adopted the slogan ''Woman, Life, Freedom.'' Around the world, these words have been chanted during solidarity rallies. In this powerful visual collection of graphic novel style essays, Marjane Satrapi has gathered together intense narration by herself and an array of journalists and writers with graphic art perspectives from esteemed collaborators including Coco, a press cartoonist at Charlie Hebdo; Patricia Bolanos, a Spanish illustrator based in Brooklyn; Mana Neyestani, an Iranian cartoonist and illustrator; and Paco Roca, a Spanish comic book artist, Shabnam Adiban, an Iranian illustrator based in Toronto, among others. Together, these are the artists and story-tellers Marjane Satrapi has chosen to tell the story of a major revolution happening in her homeland of Iran today that has inspired support from around the world. Persepolis (978-80-7595-518-0)

Kniha - autor Marjane Satrapiová, 344 stran, česky, pevná bez přebalu lesklá Souborné vydání autobiografického příběhu, v němž se s autorkou přenesete do jejího dětství a dospívání, do doby islámské revoluce v Íránu a do doby, kdy její vlast válčila s Irákem.
