Paul Nash, the British landscape and Surrealist painter, lived through both the First and Second World Wars. The collection of the fin de siécle art from the collections of the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen is one of the best in the context of Czech public collections. Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was not cut out for finance. Nor did he last particularly long in the French Navy, or as a tarpaulin salesman in Copenhagen who did not speak Danish.
