Kniha Just Kids zaznamenává zpěvaččiny hudební začátky i divoká společná léta mimo jiné ve slavném newyorském hotelu Chelsea a dodnes zůstává jedním z nejsilnějších dokumentů o americkém undergroundu konce 60. let a poloviny 70. let. Americká zpěvačka a básnířka Patti Smith je jednou z nejvýraznějších tváří dějin punku a nové vlny. Proslavilo ji už její debutové album Horses z roku 1975 a dlouholetá hudební i literární dráha. Kniha Just Kids jí vyšla v roce 2010, a stala se součástí několika žebříčků nejoceňovanějších knih daného roku. Ve stejném roce za ni Patti Smith získala také National Book Award.
