Jejích několik rytmů je založeno na dlouhých dnech ticha ve srubech na horských pozorovatelnách; vázání klád pro Warm Springs Lumber Co… a písních a tancích indiánských kmenů z Velké pánve, se kterými jsem trávil čas. Název má původ u výborných Sapirových, Boasových, Swantoných a dalších sbírek indiánských lidových příběhů z počátku 20. století; to také znamená dva zdroje lidských vědomostí - symboly a smyslové vjemy. Snažil jsem se vést svůj život jako hobo a dělník, otázky historie a filosofie v mé hlavě a záblesky kořenů náboženství jsem meditací, peyotovými a tajnými šílenými rituály nahlédl jako jednu celistvou věc... Mýty a texty Garyho Snydera (*1930) vyšly poprvé v roce 1960 a od té doby jejich význam stále roste. Dnes je můžeme směle zařadit do stejné roviny jako Eliotovu Pustinu, Poundova Cantos či Williamsův Paterson. Toto české vydání je opatřeno poznámkovým aparátem, který chybí i u anglických vydání.
