Alchymisté až na mizivé výjimky nevěděli, že vynášejí na povrch psychické struktury, neboť se domnívali, že vysvětlují látkové proměny. Díky tomu jim žádné psychologické ohledy či citlivost nebránily v odhalování pochodů jejich psyché, jež se dějí v pozadí a za něž by se člověk vědomě styděl.
