I když je to dnes již minulost, zapomenout nelze. Stovky bývalých námořníků se stále setkávají a vzpomínají. Vraťme se tedy do dob, kdy se pod československou a později českou vlajkou plavily lodě po všech mořích a oceánech a na jejich palubách odvážní muži odváděli svou náročnou práci, propojenou s velkou láskou ke svým plavidlům a hlavně k moři. Před více než třemi desítkami let jsem udělala několik rozhovorů se starými námořníky. Tehdy jsem pro ČNP - jako neoficiální, neboť zakázanou činnost při své práci v ČTK - dělala podnikový časopis Maják. Rozhovory byly - v omezeném počtu stran - určeny právě do tohoto periodika. Desítky let poté se našly při úklidu půdy v jedné staré krabici. Vzpomínky dávných námořníků mě tak uchvátily, že jsem se rozhodla udělat z nich knížku. Absolvoval Vyšší průmyslovou školu v Děčíně, obor vodní dopravy. Po maturitě nastoupil jako plavčík na starou REPUBLIKU, provozovanou Československou námořní plavbou. Po roční praxi se dostal na Vysokou námořní školu v Oděse. Celý život věnoval moři, které se mu stalo životní láskou. Náhle se loď opět rozhoupala. Oceán prudce dýchal, ztěžoval práci lodních jeřábů. Nestávalo se mi často, abych plul z bouřky do bouřky, ale teď, v průběhu čtyř hodin, vítr zmohutněl ze tří na devět ballů Beaufortovy stupnice, moře se zpěnilo, vítr zasvištěl a loď se začala vzpínat jako nezkrotný hřebec, snažící se shodit svého jezdce. V té době už byly nákladové prostory vodotěsně uzavřené, lodní jeřáby upevněné a zabezpečené. Poetické líčení moře se snoubí s poutavým líčením přístavů a zemí, které kapitán Václav Boura s československými loděmi navštívil.
