Fair Warning je třetí kniha Michaela Connellyho, jejímž hlavním hrdinou je autorovo alter ego, neúnavný reportér Jack McEvoy. Příběh začíná rázně a na tempu neztrácí až do konce: McEvoye kontaktují dva losangeleští detektivové a informují ho, že je podezřelým ve vyšetřování vraždy Tiny Portrerové. Ta byla nalezena mrtvá a McEvoy s ní zhruba o rok dříve strávil noc. Tím jsou kostky vrženy a každý, kdo četl předchozí knihy s McEvoyem (Básník a Strašák), už jistě tuší, že tento energický a talentovaný reportér nakonec začne případ vyšetřovat na vlastní pěst. Jack postupně odhaluje detaily v pozadí Tininy smrti a přitom rozkrývá mnohem rozsáhlejší kauzu. Zdá se, že v okolí řádí sériový vrah, a jak McEvoy proniká pod povrch - přičemž se neobejde bez pomoci dalších osob, například bývalé agentky FBI Rachel Wallingové -, noří se stále hlouběji do problematiky analýzy DNA a nakonec i do temného webu. Je to nebezpečné, leckdy i hrůzostrašné prostředí a Michaelu Connellymu se při jeho popisu podařilo spojit dvě věci: dotáhnout zápletku do dramatického závěru a zároveň podtrhnout význam kvalitní novinářské práce.

Karel Havlíček Borovský se z Brixenu vrátil domů 13. května 1855 vlastně jen umřít. Bylo to velmi krátké období pouhých čtrnácti měsíců, kdy už zápasil se stále se zhoršující nemocí. Toto období bylo však také spojeno se vznikem mučednické legendy - později se tvrdívalo, že Havlíček psychicky trpěl tím, že se mu přátelé ze strachu vyhýbali, ale autor podobná tvrzení vyvrací, stejně jako některé další mýty včetně toho, že Božena Němcová položila na mučedníkovu rakev trnovou korunu. Součástí knihy je i stručné vylíčení Havlíčkovy žurnalistické dráhy, neboť ta byla příčinou jeho deportace do Brixenu. Autor se nevyhýbá ani spekulaci, jak by se Havlíčkův život mohl vyvíjet, kdyby se dožil vysokého věku jako jeho matka a sourozenci. Zabývá se též Havlíčkovým druhým životem , hodnocením jeho osudu a literárního i publicistického díla. Závěrem naznačuje, že deportace do Brixenu byla neuváženým krokem, kdy vláda i císař ve své bohorovnosti ignorovali známý fakt, že nezákonná perzekuce jakékoli známé osobnosti jen zvyšuje její popularitu.
