How else can Joe Goldberg — stalker, creep, multiple-murderer, blamer of everyone else but himself, a “long overdue book, the one you never thought was coming” — be such an entertaining narrator? Even Tom Ripley, Patricia Highsmith’s famously amoral character (a clear inspiration for Kepnes), could be enjoyed at a third-person remove, unlike the in-your-face immediacy of Joe’s blinkered perspective . . . brilliant’ New York TimesJOE GOLDBERG IS BACK. AND HE'S GOING TO START A FAMILY – EVEN IF IT KILLS HIM . . . Joe Goldberg is done with cities, done with the muck and the posers, done with Love. Now, he's saying hello to nature, to simple pleasures on a cosy island in the Pacific Northwest. For the first time in a long time, he can just breathe. He gets a job at the local library – he does know a thing or two about books – and that's where he meets her: Mary Kay DiMarco. Librarian. Joe won't meddle, he will not obsess. He'll win her the old fashioned way . . . by providing a shoulder to cry on, a helping hand. Over time, they'll both heal their wounds and begin their happily ever after in this sleepy town. The trouble is . . . Mary Kay already has a life. She's a mother. She's a friend. She's . . . busy. True love can only triumph if both people are willing to make room for the real thing. A sweeping story of three generations of women, crossing from London to Ireland and back again, and the enduring effort to retrieve the secrets of the past It’s London, 1960, and Aoife Kelly—once the sparkling object of young men’s affections—runs pubs with her brusque, barking husband, Cash. Their courtship began in wartime London, before they returned to Ireland with their daughters in tow. One of these daughters—fiery, independent-minded Rosaleen—moves back to London, where she meets and begins an affair with the famous sculptor Felix Lehmann, a German-Jewish refugee artist over twice her tender eighteen years. When Rosaleen finds herself pregnant with Felix’s child, she is evicted from her flat, dismissed from her job, and desperate to hide the secret from her family. Where, and to whom, can she turn?Meanwhile, Kate, another generation down, lives in present-day London with her young daughter and husband, an unsuccessful musician and destructive alcoholic. Adopted and floundering to find a sense of herself in the midst of her unhappy marriage, Kate sets out to track down her birth mother, a search that leads her to a Magdalene Laundry in Ireland and the harrowing history that it holds.Stirring and nostalgic at moments, visceral and propulsive at others, I Couldn’t Love You More is a tender, candid portrait of love, sex, motherhood, and the enduring ties of family. The stunning Frankenstein special edition features sprayed edges, color end pages, a built-in ribbon bookmark, and embossed foil cover. The beautiful design and attention to detail set this special edition book apart, whether you’re reading for the first time or building a library of your favorite classic literature books. Dr. Victor Frankenstein never considers the consequences of his obsession. In his zeal to understand and harness the secret of life, he neglects his family and friends, isolates himself from the world, and ignores his own health. For years, he labors to create a new race of intelligent beings. He spends his nights scrounging human and animal body parts from graveyards, slaughterhouses, and hospital dissection rooms. By day he experiments in his secret laboratory, learning from his mistakes and perfecting the creature who, he believes, will worship him as a god. But this hubris is not his only sin. When he succeeds, Frankenstein is horrified by the ugly brutishness of the patchwork being he has brought to life. Rather than exult in his accomplishment, he runs from it, retreating to the comfort of long-neglected friends and family. Frankenstein has, indeed, created a monster. Not by reanimating dead flesh, but by abandoning his creation and planting within it the seeds of rage and loneliness. Now, the monster is out for revenge. First published in 1818, Frankenstein (also known as The Modern Prometheus) by Mary Shelley stands as a monumental work in the canon of Gothic literature and is widely regarded as one of the first science fiction novels. Conceived during a story contest among friends on a stormy night, Shelley's novel tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a sentient creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. The novel delves into themes of creation and responsibility, examining the consequences of man's ambition and the ethical limits of scientific exploration. Shelley's work is a profound commentary on the potential perils of playing God and the moral obligations creators have to their creations. Today, Frankenstein remains incredibly relevant, echoing in modern debates on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, and bioethics. Its exploration of human identity, monstrousness, and isolation also speaks to contemporary issues of social justice and acceptance, making Frankenstein a timeless reflection on the human condition.

From the worldwide bestselling author of The Hating Game comes a sweet and spicy rom-com that imagines Victor Frankenstein's sheltered younger sister, and her attempts to create the perfect man . . . For generations, every Frankenstein has found their true love and equal, unlocking lifetimes of blissful wedded adventure. Clever, pretty (and odd) Angelika Frankenstein has run out of suitors and fears she may become the exception to this family rule. When assisting in her brother Victor's ground-breaking experiment to bring a reassembled man back to life, she realizes that having an agreeable gentleman convalescing in the guest suite might be a chance to let a man get to know the real her. For the first time, Angelika embarks upon a project that is all her own. When her handsome scientific miracle sits up on the lab table, her hopes for an instant romantic connection are thrown into disarray. Her resurrected beau (named Will for the moment) has total amnesia and is solely focused on uncovering his true identity. Trying to ignore their heart-pounding chemistry, Angelika reluctantly joins the investigation into his past, hoping it will bring them closer. Frankenstein - Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
By the dim and yellow light of the moon, as it forced its way through the window-shutters, I beheld the wretch-the miserable monster whom I had created. He held up the curtain of the bed; and his eyes, if eyes they may be called, were fixed on me. His jaws opened...Frankenstein is the most celebrated horror story ever written. It tells the dreadful tale of Victor Frankenstein, a visionary young student of natural philosophy, who discovers the secret of life. In the grip of his obsession he constructs a being from dead body parts, and animates this creature. The results, for Victor and for his family, are catastrophic.Written when Mary Shelley was just eighteen, Frankenstein was inspired by the ghost stories and vogue for Gothic literature that fascinated the Romantic writers of her time. She transformed these supernatural elements an epic parable that warned against the threats to humanity posed by accelerating technological progress. Published for the 200th anniversary, this edition, based on the original 1818 text, explains in detail the turbulent intellectual context in which Shelley was writing, and also investigates how her novel has since become a byword for controversial practices in science and medicine, from manipulating ecosystems to vivisection and genetic modification. As an iconic study of power, creativity, and, ultimately, what it is to be human, Frankenstein continues to shape our thinking in profound ways to this day.

Frankenstein - Mary W. Shelley
A twisted, upside-down creation myth that gave birth to the modern science fiction novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley's chilling Gothic tale, lays bare the dark side of science, and the horror within us all. Written after a nightmare Mary Shelley was only eighteen, this book gave birth to the modern science fiction novel. Set against the backdrop of Europe in the late 18th century, Frankenstein explores themes of scientific ethics, the nature of monstrosity, and the consequences of playing god.The book follows the ambitious scientist Victor Frankenstein who plunders graveyards to create a human-like creature from reanimated body parts, driven by his desire to overcome death and unlock the secrets of life. Frankenstein is often considered a reflection of the cultural and scientific anxieties of the time, with the Industrial Revolution and advancements in science raising questions about the ethical boundaries of scientific exploration. Despite first being published in 1818, this novel remains relevant today, prompting discussions on the consequences of unchecked ambition and societal rejection of the “other.” This seminal work is perfect for fans of the Gothic and science fiction genres.

Frankenstein (Mary Shelleyová-Různí interpreti) (MP3-CD) - rozhlasová dramatizace
Mary Shelleyová - Frankenstein. Světoznámý horor vypráví příběh mladého vědce Viktora Frankensteina, který stvoří umělého člověka, ohavné monstrum s nadlidskou silou? Stovky adaptací divadelních, filmových i rozhlasových, komiksy, a dokonce i počítačové hry. Mary Wollstonecra Shelleyová u prvního vydání ani nezveřejnila své autorství, takže Frankenstein vyšel v roce 1818 anonymně a v nákladu pouhých pěti set výtisků.

The book that translated the dark and stormy ethos of the gothic novel into the foundation for the tale of modern science fiction, now freshly repackaged for the Union Square & Co. Signature Clothbound Editions line. Frankenstein has, indeed, created a monster, not by animating dead flesh but by abandoning his creation and planting within it the seeds of rage and loneliness. Now, the monster is out for revenge.

She makes fresh sense of her past and of history by writing to key figures in her life about the big themes that haunt us all—love and money, sex and death. In letters to her childhood self, her mother, sister, and past lovers, she writes a backstory that enables her to live in the present. The letters expand to address trans sisters lost and found, as well as Cybele, ancient goddess of trans women. She engages with the political, the aesthetic, and the numinous dimensions of trans life and how they refract her sense of who she is, who she has been, who she can still become. She confronts difficult memories that connect her mother’s early death to her compulsion to write, her communist convictions, her coming to New York, the bittersweet reality of her late transition, and the joy to be found in Brooklyn’s trans and raver communities.
