Přestože se nedožil padesáti let, zanechal po sobě vyzrálé a celistvé dílo a do dějin umění po 2. světové válce se vřadil jako jeden z jeho nejvýznačnějších představitelů. Alén Diviš (1990-1956) žil od dvacátých let minulého století v Paříži, kde studoval na École des Beaux-Arts a také navštěvoval přednášky Františka Kupky. Na počátku druhé světové války, za ostře protičeských nálad ve francouzské společnosti, byl zatčen a držen v pařížské věznici La Santé a potom vláčen po internačních táborech Francie, Maroka a Martiniku. V New Yorku, kam se konečně dostal roku 1941, své vězeňské zkušenosti reflektoval malbami inspirovanými tím, co odsouzenci na smrt kreslili a psali na zdi cel, a těmito existenciálními obrazy se osobitě a zcela nezávisle přiblížil k tomu, čím tehdy zasáhli do dějin moderního umění Jean Dubuffet, Jean Fautrier a Wols. Když skončila válka, vrátil se do Československa, usadil se v Praze a roku 1948 tam své newyorské práce vystavil s velkým úspěchem zvláště mezi mladými výtvarníky. Další výstava roku 1949 obsahovala jeho tehdejší malby a kresby na náměty z balad Karla Jaromíra Erbena. Smrt, která v nich hraje podstatnou úlohu, stala se pak jedním z hlavních témat jeho pozdní tvorby. V padesátých letech za komunistické totality se ocitl v úplné izolaci. Obdivuhodný v tom, že přináší modrost, vzdělání a citlivost pozorovatele a glosátora, který nás neučí mentorovat, ale vnímat, brát si to, co je nám nabízeno. Autor Pozdní texty sám doprovodil téměř stovkou dokumentárních fotografií.
