Na adaptér pak můžete nasadit jednu z výměnných zátěží systému BRUCE, které lze v průběhu lovu volně měnit. Na druhou stranu obratlíku poté navážete Vámi zvolený návazec. Pokud chcete, aby obratlík kladl odpor při vytrhávání a plnil tak funkci prvního záseku při záběru, zvolte obratlík o průměru 3.5 - 4mm. U většího průměru nemáte jistotu, že ryba po záběru obratlík z adaptéru vytrhne. Gumový adaptér funguje částečně jako šokový absorbér a zároveň chrání i uzel na obratlíku. V tomto systému lze použít i hadičku proti zamotání návazce, kterou lze zasunout do horního konce adaptéru. Každá zátěž ze systému BRUCE je dodávána s jedním gumovým adaptérem
