Zatímco pojmy Boha a nesmrtelnosti duše zůstávají jakožto pouhé ideje na poli teoretického rozumu bez opory, získávají skrze pojem svobody prokázaný existencí morálního zákona "stálost a objektivní realitu, tj. jejich možnost je dokazována tím, že svoboda je skutečná, neboť tato idea se vyjevuje prostřednictvím morálního zákona". Kritika praktického rozumu takto předkládá jádro Kantem reformovaného pojmu metafyziky, na nějž navázala generace tzv. německého idealismu.
