Stevenson napsal Ostrov pokladů, když viděl svého synovce malovat vodovkami mapu ostrova. Začal dávat ostrovům jména, až nakonec napsal „Ostrov pokladů“ do pravého horního rohu stránky. Po dlouhé nemoci zemřel Stevenson roku 1894 na ostrově Upolu v jižním Pacifiku, kde do té doby žil. Myslíte, že na tom ostrově našel svůj poklad? Dvojjazyčné (zrcadlové) knihy patří mezi vhodné studijní doplňky pro výuku cizích jazyků. Texty v originálním jazyce jsou doplněny zrcadlovým českým překladem (nachází se po levé straně knihy). Jim mapu nalezne mezi věcmi mrtvého a ukáže ji zemanovi Trelawneyovi a lékaři (a zároveň smírčímu soudci) Liveseyovi. Oba muži pak zorganizují námořní výpravu na lodi Hispaniola za pokladem
