Když Sovětský svaz a Německo přepadnou její zemi, Reniin svět se roztříští. Ale vedle hrůzy války je tu rovněž velká krása, jak Renia začíná nacházet svůj hlas coby spisovatelka a poprvé v životě se zamilovává. Ona a její chlapec Zygmunt si vyměňují první polibek jen pár hodin předtím, než jejich město dobudou nacisti. A je to Zygmunt, který napíše poslední, srdcervoucí zápis do Reniina deníku. Reniin deník, objevený po sedmdesáti letech, je světovými médii označen za klasiku mezi literaturou o holocaustu. Sama Renia Spiegel je označována za "polskou Annu Frankovou". Srozumitelnost a dovednost, s jakou je deník napsán, je mimořádným svědectvím o hrůzách války, ale i životu, který může existovat dokonce i v nejtemnějších dobách. O autorce: Renia Spiegel se narodila ve východním Polsku v roce 1924. V lednu 1939 si začala psát deník. Když vypukla válka, žila i se svou mladší sestrou v Přemyšli u babičky s dědečkem. Válka ji oddělila od její matky. Město nejprve obsadili Sověti a dospívající dívka pocítila komunistickou brutalitu. Když Německo rozpoutalo válku se Sovětským svazem, obsadili nacisté i Přemyšl. Pro Židy nastala doba temna. Bylo vytvořeno ghetto. V létě 1942 byla Renia nucena se začít ukrývat, aby se vyhnula likvidaci ghetta - deportacím do vyhlazovacích táborů. Jen o pár dní později nacisti její úkryt objevili a zastřelili ji, bylo ji čerstvě osmnáct let.
