Monografia sa venuje problematike environmentálnej bezpečnosti, v slovenskej vede doteraz málo preskúmanej, pričom ide o mimoriadne dôležitú tému s ďalekosiahlymi a vážnymi následkami. Cieľom monografie je prispieť do vedeckej debaty o tejto téme tak na poli spoločenských vied (predovšetkým bezpečnostných štúdií), ako aj medzinárodného práva. Preto bola koncipovaná ako multidisciplinárne dielo s holistickým prístupom. Tematicky je rozdelená do troch veľkých častí. V rámci prvej je v jednotlivých kapitolách venovaná pozornosť bezpečnostným aspektom klimatickej zmeny, ktoré sú predstavené na troch úrovniach – vplyvu na jednotlivca, na bezpečnosť štátov a nakoniec na medzinárodnú politiku. Druhá časť sa venuje medzinárodnoprávnej regulácii environmentálnej bezpečnosti. Predmetom skúmania sú nielen možnosti ochrany životného prostredia normami medzinárodného práva, ale aj to, ako degradácia životného prostredia pôsobí na tieto práva (napríklad ľudské) a ovplyvňuje ich rozvoj. Tretia časť monografie predstavuje Bezpečnostnú radu OSN ako centrálny orgán medzinárodného systému kolektívnej bezpečnosti a jej prístup k otázkam environmentálnej bezpečnosti, ako aj príčiny brániace jej aktívnejšiemu pôsobeniu.
