Charlie je frajer, miluje život, děvčata, tanec a zpěv a má sen, sen o slunné Havaji. Charlie není z těch, co své sny jen tak vzdají, a o Velikonocích 1969 odjíždí na zfalšované pozvání do tehdejší NSR, odtud chce odletět do JAR a pak, pak už bude Havaj! Ale život se nedá naplánovat, ten se musí žít a chleba je všude o dvou kůrkách, napřed práce a pak zábava, milý Charlie… a Charlie se žít nebál. Dnešní frajeři se díky členství v EU mohou daleko snáz kdekoliv v Evropě usadit, najít si práci, a pokud se jim nedaří a po pár měsících je vše nesnesitelné, vrátit zpátky k mamince. Mama hotel je vždy přijme zpět. Máma i kamarádi doma pochopí, že dotyčný se "jen hledal" a jednoduše se nenašel… Charlie se vrátit nemohl. Cena za návrat by byla příliš vysoká. Musel po zvolené cestě jít dál. Byla jiná doba. "I dnes jsou ale takoví, kteří se nevrátí a jdou za svým snem, těm trochu závidím, ale zároveň jim přeji, že to mají jednodušší.
