O autorovi Thomas Halliday Thomas Halliday se narodil v roce 1989 ve Skotské vysočině. Patří k mladé generaci britských paleontologů, která čerpá z nejmodernějších metod analýzy zkamenělin, a nové poznatky, odborné zkušenosti i vlastní fantazii přetavil do imaginativního díla mapujícího dávno zaniklé „jiné světy“, kterými zeměkoule v průběhu milionů let oplývala. Halliday studoval zoologii na Cambridgeské univerzitě s následnou specializací v paleobiologii, ve které získal doktorát na University College London. Tam také získal Zlatou medaili Linného společnosti za nejlepší doktorandskou práci v oblasti biologie. V současné době provádí výzkum pod hlavičkou University of Birmingham a je také vědeckým pracovníkem Přírodopisného muzea v Londýně.
