Nágárdžuna analýza se pokouší odhalit antinomickou a logicky rozpornou povahu teorie kauzality, která operuje se jsoucny, jež jsou obdařena neměnnou, samo-sebou jsoucí podstatou neboli vnitřní přirozeností (svabhava). Nágárdžuna dochází k tomu, že žádné inherentní kauzální spojení mezi takovými jsoucny existovat nemůže. Kauzalita proto vposled není objektivním vztahem či metafyzickou silou spojující jsoucna, nýbrž vztahem konceptuálně vytvořeným, jenž by nemohl existovat bez naší konceptualizující mysli. Avšak i když kauzalita není žádným "cementem" universa či fyzikální silou, přesto pro Nágárdžunu konvenčně existuje jako pragmatický pojmový konstrukt, jenž je základem pro naši každodenní praxi.
