Ondřej Cikán již do němčiny přeložil i Máchův Máj (Labor 2012, druhé vydání Kétos 2019). Karel Hynek Mácha (1810-1836) ist der Verfasser des Liebesepos "Mai / Máj", das u.a. zu den wichtigsten Inspirationsquellen des tschechischen Surrealismus gehört. Liebespaare rezitieren es bis heute unter Máchas Statue auf dem Prager Petřín. Privat zeigte sich Máchas Romantik auf etwas andere Weise als in seinem berühmtesten Gedicht. Am 6.11. starb er und am 8.11. wurde statt der geplanten Hochzeit sein Begräbnis begangen. Der Sohn erlebte seinen ersten Geburtstag nicht. Ondřej Cikán hat auch das Liebesepos Mai ins Deutsche übersetzt (Labor 2012, verbesserte Neuauflage Kétos 2019) und dabei den Originalklang nachgebildet, indem er die Freiheiten des tschechischen Jambus auch für das Deutsche übernahm.
