In October 1943, Frederick Bailey, a wireless operator who had trained with the Royal Armoured Corps, was selected for Special Operation Executive’s wireless training centre at Fawley Court, Henley-on-Thames. It was the start of an incredible wartime career that saw Fred serve behind enemy lines in both the European and Far East theatres. With his training complete, and having adopted the fieldname Rétif, Sergeant Bailey became a member of one of the famous Jedburgh units, Team Citröen. The Jedburghs generally consisted of compact teams of three men, usually an officer, a radio operator and a soldier from the country the team was to be dropped into. Together with Major John Smallwood and Captain Pierre Bloch, a French Foreign Legionnaire, Bailey, as Team Citröen’s radio operator, was dropped in into the Lagarde area of the Vaucluse region in German-occupied France by an American aircrew from Algiers during the night of 11/12 August 1944. Their mission was to support the local Resistance groups in the rear of the German units trying to hold back the Allied forces sweeping through France after D-Day. As Maxine Harcourt-Kelly reveals, the fear of Bailey’s transmissions being intercepted by the Germans, as well as the constant danger of their location being revealed by informers, meant that Team Citröen was constantly on the move. Despite this, on one occasion the group knocked out an enemy tank with the help of an intrepid young Frenchman, who ran up to it armed only with a grenade and dropped it through the driver’s viewing hatch. One morning, Bailey learnt that a large German convoy was moving along the road from Grenoble to Lyon. He sent a coded message to HQ in Algiers asking for an immediate air strike. A series of Mosquito fighter bombers attacked and destroyed the whole convoy. Fred also caused major disruption to German attempts to withdraw by calling in air support which destroyed a vital bridge. Fred was Mentioned in Despatches and awarded the Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star by the French. With his war in Europe over, Fed volunteered to serve with SOE’s Force 136 in the Far East. He was duly sent out to Burma where he was dispatched into the Keren Hills to monitor the routes being used by the retreating Japanese. Fred was able to send regular reports on enemy troop movements and direct Allied air strikes. On one occasion, they ambushed a Japanese convoy. A fierce firefight developed, but they slipped back into the jungle before the Japanese could counter-attack. These attacks were so disruptive that the Japanese were forced to form a special force to hunt Fred’s team down. As they could not be resupplied, Fred’s team grew weaker. Before long, with nothing to eat but a handful of rice each day, the team was beginning to starve. It was left with no option but to evacuate. Even then, Fred’s adventures were far from over. In August 1945, he was dropped into Malaya tasked with finding any American aircrew who had been shot down and taken prisoner south of Kuala Lumpur. This is the action-packed story of one man’s remarkable war serving in Allied Special Forces units behind enemy lines in both Occupied Europe and the Far East.

Z celkového vyznění textu každopádně vyplývá, že zde autorovi nešlo jen o běžné zpracování historických materiálů, nýbrž o něco, čemu přikládá mimořádný důraz. Ve stručném a neotřelém popisu jednotlivých pravěkých období, od konce doby kamenné do začátku doby železné, autor sleduje rozdílnost a vzájemné vztahy dvou světů, které představovaly na jedné straně svět žen a na straně druhé pak svět mužů. Prakticky se jednalo o urputný zápas. A jak tento vzájemně napjatý vztah obou světů probíhal, vidíme především z toho, jak v době neolitických zemědělců narostl vliv ženských božstev, což pochopitelně nenastalo jen tak samo sebou. Ovšem následně sílící vliv mužských božstev tyto trendy (nejen ve střední Evropě, ale i v dalších místech světa) obrátil ve výrazný prospěch patriarchálních božstev a s nimi provázaných idejí. Takže kulty někdejších Velkých Bohyní pak už jenom ustupovaly do pozadí, místy až do úplné ilegality. Z původně dobrých ženských božstev, dárkyní života a nositelek obecného blaha a prosperity, se postupně stávaly temné síly. Tentýž osud potkával i kněžky těchto bohyní. Je příznačné, že konfrontační procesy ve vztazích mezi světem žen a světem mužů rozhodně nezanikly s koncem pravěku. Autor se zde věnuje i takovým tématům, které bezprostředně navazují na dávné události a změny s nimi související. Zejména to byly tajné ženské společnosti, amazonismus, sibyly, svatá svatba, orgie, kulty plodnosti. Také odívání žen a jejich zdobivost, stavby velkých neolitických domů atd. Střední Evropa nikdy nebyla žádnou zapadlou končinou v hlubokých pralesích, nýbrž se zde udržovaly kontakty s vyspělejšími civilizacemi. Je pravděpodobné, že do osudů některých z nich lidé z našich zemí také kdysi výrazně zasáhli. Kniha docela podrobně rozebírá i velmi staré pověry o sexuálních útocích nočních démonů (sukuba a inkubus). A také rozebírá oblast duchovna, které se těchto projevů týká. Takovéto zážitky, někdy značně otřesné a traumatizující, byly odjakživa spojovány s magií a čarodějnictvím. Následky těchto fenoménů se velmi výrazně (až tragicky) projevily v minulosti a jsou dokonce patrné i v současnosti. A navíc ještě poskytují zcela zásadní sdělení i pro naši dnešní dobu, aniž si to běžně asi sotva všichni uvědomujeme. O spisovateli Janu Padychovi jeho čtenáři vědí, že svoji přípravu k psaní pravěkých příběhů založil na svém téměř celoživotním samostudiu, s nímž souvisí také dlouholeté konzultace a korespondence s odborníky. Kromě zdrojů z historie, archeologie, religionistiky, mytografie, etnografie a dalších příbuzných oborů, využíval také díla klasických ezoterních autorů. Nicméně v současné době jsme svědky toho, jak se zejména některé prvky z tradičních náboženských a ezoterických názorů prosazují dokonce i pomocí uznávaných vědeckých metod, což ještě relativně nedávno nebylo vůbec myslitelné. Velmi přínosné v tom smyslu jsou zejména některé publikované knihy celosvětově uznávaných autorů, zaznamenávající vlastní vědecké výzkumy. A zrovna některé z takto popsaných metod, například klinicky zkoumaná šamanská putování, posloužily Janu Padychovi k objasnění některých jevů, které souvisely s nejstaršími formami náboženství a s dalším náboženským vývojem v pravěkých dějinách nejenom střední Evropy. A také mu patřičně napomohly k objasnění jedné skupiny až obdivuhodně prastarých pověr. Popsané metody mu rozhodně měly co sdělit ještě k dalším jevům, které odjakživa hýbaly nejen s osudy jednotlivců, ale také s lidskými pospolitostmí. A nejen s nimi. Veškeré hlavní motivy knihy autor nakonec shrnul v samotném závěru. Jeho zájem při práci na pojednání o odkazu pravěkých žen rozhodně nespočíval v propagaci jakýchkoliv idejí či ezoterních praktik. Nýbrž jen a jen ve snaze vnést trochu světla do šera dávných věků. A zároveň i do temnot nejtemnějších.

Plánsko bylo kdysi stanoveno naprosto přesně, neboť bylo vymezeno právě vesnicemi Plánských Chodů. Osady si můžeme dokonce i vyjmenovat. Vezmu to odshora dolů a zleva doprava, jako když čtete knížku. Stránku řádek po řádku. Drmoul, Horní Ves, Broumov, Zadní Chodov, Trstěnice, Chodová Planá, Dolní Kramolín, Chodský Újezd, Horní a Dolní Jadruž, Žďár, Štokov, Neblažov, Ctiboř, Nahý Újezdec, Klíčov, Kumpolec a Lhota. Chodové z těchto vsí střežili hranici s Bavorskem a stejně jako Chodové přimdští a tachovští, i oni podléhali tachovskému purkrabímu. Na východním okraji Plánska, pěkně svisle pod sebou, ještě zbývají: Boněnov, Hostičkov, Otín a Zliv. Tyto čtyři chodské vsi střežily průchod do vnitrozemí, takzvanou Tepelskou bránou. Patřily sice na Plánsko, ale pod správu v Teplé. Dalo by se říci, že oblast v podstatě uzavírá kdysi Boršův, dnes Kosí nebo také Kosový potok. Tak vida! Plánsko je znovu na světě!
