Kupírováním uší a ocásků počínaje a topením štěňat konče. Z dnešního pohledu může takové počínání nebo jeho tiché schvalování vrhat na jinak kladný vztah autora ke zvířatům temný stín, ale musíme si uvědomit, že věci, které dnes považujeme za kruté a nepřijatelné byly v době, kdy text této knihy vznikl, běžné.
