Významné vily vznikaly v Brně nejprve jako letohrádky, později trvale obývané rodinné vily jednak v sousedství městského centra, jednak za Lužánkami v Černých Polích i ve vzdálenějších Pisárkách. Stavělo se dále v Masarykově čvrti, avšak vilové soubory vznikaly i na dalších místech - zejména v Černých Polích, Králově Poli a Žabovřeskách. Zvýšená pozornost novým architektonickým počinům v brněnské vilové architektuře je novým přínosem rozšířeného vydání. Spolu s tím je nutně rozšířen pohled na vilové realizace minulých období a zaznamenány změny v péči o tyto památky (Jurkovičova vila, Tugendhat, vila Stiassny apod.).
