Čas odvál upjatost viktoriánské epochy a utišil skandálnost chování a názorů nevázané hrdinky, na jejíž obranu spisovatelka napsala: „Nepleťme si konvenci s morálkou!” Královna Viktorie byla ostatně knihou přímo nadšena. Tajemství velké a široce oblíbené literatury se nedá definovat, ale něco nám generace nadšených čtenářů přece jen prozradí.
