Based on period documents and photography, the book maps in detail the development of Czech non-university sciences from the 18th century when the Society of Unknown Scholars in the Austrian Lands was founded in Olomouc. Český dirigent, který se ve světě neztratil. Nahrávky Martina Turnovského poprvé na CD. Význam pozoruhodného českého dirigenta Martina Turnovského měli paradoxně větší možnost ocenit posluchači za hranicemi jeho vlasti. Mezi jeho učiteli najdeme mj. jména Karla Ančerla či Georga Szélla. Po vítězství v soutěži v Besançonu (1958) musel téměř deset let čekat na skutečný začátek své mezinárodní kariéry; totalitní režim mu zablokoval cestu do světa. Po uvolnění této izolace a odchodu do exilu pod jeho vedením postupně pracovaly orchestry Dresdner Staatskapelle i Dresdner Staatsoper, opery v Oslu a v Bonnu; hostoval u New York Philharmonic, Bavorských rozhlasových symfoniků či RLPO - a teprve po změně režimu mohl obnovit spolupráci s orchestry českými. Z množství nahrávek pořízených v 60. letech pro Supraphon jich většina zde vychází poprvé na CD. Jsou svědectvím výrazného talentu, který měl o několik let později v plnosti zazářit před nejvýznamnějšími orchestry světa. (dvd-premiery.cz)

Šejnovy pečlivě zremasterované nahrávky z let 1950-1962, od svěžího Mozarta hraného "lehkou rukou" až po čtvrtého Mahlera, nyní Supraphon poprvé vydává v digitální podobě! Jméno Karla Šejny (1896-1982) jako by vedle kolegů Talicha, Kubelíka či Ančerla stále tvořilo druhý hlas - ovšem druhý hlas, který nelze dost docenit a který je v historii České filharmonie zcela nepostradatelný. Původně sólokontrabasista ČF se dirigování začal věnovat na popud Václava Talicha a v roce 1939 byl oficiálně jmenován druhým dirigentem orchestru. Tím zůstal i po odchodu Talicha, kterého vystřídal Rafael Kubelík, i po Kubelíkově emigraci; na uvolněné místo šéfdirigenta byl tehdy (zprvu proti vůli orchestru) dosazen Karel Ančerl. I nadále tedy jako "ten druhý" diriguje desítky koncertů a nahrává řadu snímků, které dnes patří do zlatého fondu archivu Supraphonu. Dobové kritiky mluví o pružném a temperamentním dirigentovi, který vždy vyžaduje pochopení slohu adůsledně pracuje s detailem. V roce 1972 Šejna definitivně uzavírá své padesátileté působení v ČF Mahlerovou Čtvrtou symfonií. (dvd-premiery.cz)

Objevné rané nahrávky dirigentské legendy jménem Rafael Kubelík! Symbolicky právě jméno Rafaela Kubelíka otevírá supraphonskou řadu archivních nahrávek s nejvýznamnějšími českými dirigenty. Kubelíkova cesta ke katarzi, kterou představovala legendární Má vlast na prvním svobodném Pražském jaru roku 1990, však trvala více než půl století. Ve dvaceti letech poprvé dirigoval Českou filharmonii, V osmadvaceti (1942) se stal jejím šéfdirigentem. Vzácné nahrávky na tomto 2CD pocházejí z let 1944-1948, před Kubelíkovou emigrací. Z Dvořáka, který patřil k repertoárovým dominantám ČF, se v Kubelíkově podání dochovala interpretačně osobitá nahrávka Osmé symfonie a Klavírního koncertu s bravurním výkonem mladého Rudolfa Firkušného. Kubelík však odvážně uváděl i zcela soudobý repertoár. Živý snímek Šostakovičovy Deváté symfonie zprosince 1945 (tedy tři měsíce po dokončení díla!) je pravděpodobně její vůbec první nahrávkou. Tíživou zkušenost válečných let reflektuje i Martinů Symfonie č. 4. Unikátní snímky Památníku Lidicím a Dobiášova Stalingradu dokreslují atmosféru doby.
