Jeden problém tu však je: legendární střetnutí u Prochorovky se odehrálo úplně jinak a dlouholetý obraz této bitvy je založený na nepravdivých tvrzeních. Britský vojenský historik Ben Wheatley na základě pečlivého studia známých i nově objevených archivních dokumentů (především německých hlášení o stavu a opravách bojové techniky) předkládá nový obraz bitvy, z něhož jasně plyne, že poměr ztrát u Prochorovky byl silně nevyrovnaný a že dosavadní obraz patří do světa mýtů.
